Human Equivalent: 5.30pm at The Jazz Bar, Edinburgh

  • The Jazz Bar, 1a Chambers Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1HR (map)

Human Equivalent is the amazing saxophonist and composer, Leah Gough-Cooper's band. I've been playing with Leah since I was about 17, and joined Human Equivalent during my time at Berklee. Her tunes are super cool, her playing is on fire, and she is only back from New York a couple of times a year at most, so don't miss it!

Spark Trio feat. Alan Benzie: 8:30pm at The Jazz Bar, Edinburgh

  • The Jazz Bar, 1a Chambers Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1HR (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The gig we did in Glasgow earlier this year was so much fun, we decided to do another one on the East coast! Spark Trio are a brilliant organ trio (Paul Harrison - organ, Joe Williamson - guitar, Stephen Henderson - drums), and with me on piano/rhodes, it makes for a pretty interesting set up. We'll be playing a mixture of original tunes, arrangements of standards and anything else that takes our fancy. Cue pithy comment about sparks flying etc.

Flembot at Celtic Connections: 7:30pm at Oran Mor, Glasgow

  • Oran Mor, Byres Road, Glasgow, G12 8QX (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

We are playing as part of a triple bill called "Ladies of Soul" for Celtic Connections. The name may sound a little misleading - all of the bands are young and very much in the 21st century, though soul, gospel, funk and jazz are certainly the driving influences. I've been a fan of Flembot since we shared a bill with them on a Fat-Suit gig a while back, so I'm really looking forward to playing keys with them! More info here:

Highlighted by Jazzwise Magazine as ‘one to watch’ in 2014, Brian has a strong background in classical music as well as jazz, and you can also hear influences from his tours and collaborations in India in recent years. Really cool, interesting music with James Lindsay on bass, and Dough Hough on drums.
