Super fun, groovy band led by Scottish Young Jazz Musician of the Year David Bowden. Jazz with strong West-African and South American influences.
Matt is an extremely talented young saxophonist - as astonishingly accomplished improviser for his age, great sound and sense of melody. One of the most promising young musicians in the country.
First set 2.30pm at Soul
Second set 3.40pm at McGinty's Meal An' Ale
Fat-Suit returns to Aberdeen Jazz Festival! We always have a great time in Aberdeen, and I'm sure this time will be no exception.
More specific info as it arrives...
Highlighted by Jazzwise Magazine as ‘one to watch’ in 2014, Brian has a strong background in classical music as well as jazz, and you can also hear influences from his tours and collaborations in India in recent years. Really cool, interesting music, with Andrew Robb on bass and Stu Brown on Drums.
We are playing as part of a triple bill called "Ladies of Soul" for Celtic Connections. The name may sound a little misleading - all of the bands are young and very much in the 21st century, though soul, gospel, funk and jazz are certainly the driving influences. I've been a fan of Flembot since we shared a bill with them on a Fat-Suit gig a while back, so I'm really looking forward to playing keys with them! More info here:
The gig we did in Glasgow earlier this year was so much fun, we decided to do another one on the East coast! Spark Trio are a brilliant organ trio (Paul Harrison - organ, Joe Williamson - guitar, Stephen Henderson - drums), and with me on piano/rhodes, it makes for a pretty interesting set up. We'll be playing a mixture of original tunes, arrangements of standards and anything else that takes our fancy. Cue pithy comment about sparks flying etc.
This is a big Hogmanay party at Brewhemia in Edinburgh, and we are getting back together with the ridiculous singer Angus Munro, it's going to be loads of fun! More details here:
Human Equivalent is the amazing saxophonist and composer, Leah Gough-Cooper's band. I've been playing with Leah since I was about 17, and joined Human Equivalent during my time at Berklee. Her tunes are super cool, her playing is on fire, and she is only back from New York a couple of times a year at most, so don't miss it!
